There is nothing more comforting than making and eating a grilled cheese sandwich, this recipe is so easy to make, but I think its the Worlds Best Grilled Cheese!
The World’s Best Grilled Cheese always starts with good sourdough bread, lots of cheese, and of course a schmear of mayonnaise on the outside! I will be honest; I learned how to make a proper grilled cheese sandwich when I first moved to Napa Valley. My friend Brian used to make them all the time in the apartment, and I was evidently obsessed. I would always ask him how it is so buttery and delicious? He showed me how to make it and the rest of history. What is your favorite go-to comforting sandwich?
Tips for the worlds best-grilled cheese:
- use a sturdy bread when making this, an excellent healthy sourdough or a beautiful pain de mie is a good start
- you must use a slice of American cheese (however buy the organic kind if you’re weird about a processed cheese)
- a good sharp cheddar is an especially excellent companion cheese to the American
- use a nonstick pan when making this to avoid a sticky mess and easy cleanup
Making the sandwich:
- always have your pan on low heat, you do not want to burn the outside of the bread, and your cheese is still not melted
- you must must must use mayo on the outside of the sandwich, so it gets nice and golden. It is messy, but this is a must.
